Kazakhstan is also the first stop of China’s “Belt and Road” strategy to extend westward. At present China has become Kazakhstan’s largest trading partner, and Kazakhstan is China’s second largest trading partner after Russia in CIS countries.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce of China, as of the end of 2018, China’s various investments in Kazakhstan have accumulated USD 29.3 billion, making it China’s largest investor among the countries along the “Belt and Road”.
